Bridging Hope in an Unfair World: A Mission to Save Lives and Support Families

I seem to be getting several appeals to involve myself in helping out with different cases of people in need. Today I received a text from Zoily Menéndez Avalos , our social worker at San Juan Bautista Hospital in Jalpatagua, in which she was very demoralised and upset when she came across a mother from El Rodeo community, with four girls aged 12, 10, 8 and 2 years old. She needs to undergo radioactive iodine treatment but, due to her economic limitations, her future looks bleak. Unfortunately there is a big possibility that these girls could end up being orphans, since in Guatemala there isn’t a centre that can provide this type of care for free. When I mentioned this case to Padre-Jose Camilleri , his instant reaction was to tell Zoily to contact this woman and put her mind at rest, that our mission will fiance her operation.

This situation is not only in Guatemala but all around the world, where the rich and privileged ones can afford to get state of the art health treatment, while those unfortunate people who live in extreme poverty, or those with limited resources, don’t even stand a chance of stepping a foot in such specialised hospitals. What an unfair world we live in.
