Building Hope: A New Home and a Fresh Start for David Cano’s Family

Finally the construction of a house for David Cano’s family in Rodeo has commenced. They are a family of nine people, very poor and the children suffer from malnutrition. Fr. Joseph Camilleri made it a point to visit this family personally, so that he will address their needs, especially from the medical aspect. We faced quite a few hurdles until we persuaded David that he has to meet certain criteria before we build a new home for his family. One of the conditions was that we cannot proceed with the project if the land is solely under his name. Eventually we took him to a notary and he had to agree to sign that his land will now belong jointly by David and his wife. All the legal costs were covered by us. Another issue was to find alternative accommodation for the whole family until the new house is built. As a temporary measure, this was solved by erecting a large room out of cane and covered with plastic sheeting, where 9 people can sleep, cook and eat. Once again, I cannot end this post by not thanking our generous benefactors.
